OUR STORY

After graduating from the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in 1982, Albert Young & Stuart Shulman founded S & Y Hot Glass; Michigan's first independent glassblowing studio dedicated to teaching community based non-degree classes. Since that time, S & Y evolved into Michigan Hot Glass Workshop (MHGW) located in the historical Albert Kahn industrial complex currently known as the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit where Albert Young & his faculty continue to offer classes & inspiration in the art of glassblowing.

Albert Young is an internationally renowned sculptor and master glass blower who received his BFA from the College for Creative Studies in ceramics & glass and a MFA in sculpture from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He taught glassblowing for 26 years at CCS while operating Michigan Hot Glass Workshop. He continues to be a wealth of knowledge & inspiration to the studios and artists in the region.
